Images like this make me roll my eyes, it is an easy thing to pull off when there are more Porsches on the field then anything else.

But, you can't just show up with the most cars. Its not like Porsche showed up with 20 cars and no competition. There were plenty of other C group competitors, Porsche was just the fastest. So it still is a testament to Porsches domination of the event.

Noah you nailed it. There were over 50 cars that entered the race that year. And only one managed to crack the top 10. That is getting owned by Porsche, because everybody else was their bitch that race.

Out of those 50 cars how many were Porsches? And how many well funded teams were driving something else?

20 but thats three different cars part of several different teams in 2 different classes. Mostly Running turbo's, only Peugeot and Lancia and a Jr C class car used them that year. Turbo's in open air back then without restrictions because they were so new were the key here.
Weird fact —- Porsche actually placed higher with their 2.6L motor than the larger 3.3L turbo motor.

So in other words... There were more Porsches that didn't make the top ten then there were ones in the top ten?

If you want to only focus on failure or trouble thats is fine. In any business model you plan for attrition. If you bring 20 and 12 of those care finish in the top 15. And 6 of those 20 didn't finish. I would say thats a successful outing. Especially since its not like it was a single 20 car team sharing info all in the same class here. Teams independently select the cars they drive for various reasons, winning, funding, maybe a mix of both. These teams seam to have chosen the best option available. If there are 10 places available and you take 9 thats 90%. Not many competitors in modern competition of any form of sports can claim that kind of dominance at the highest level in their chosen form of competition.

It's not so much focusing on a failure, as it is trying to balance out the bias in the other direction. Porsche has made some great race cars, and a great deal of their success is tied in with their popularity. This link goes both ways, the more successful they are the more they are raced, and the more they are raced, the more feedback they get and the more podiums they take.
What bothers me about the diagram above is how biased it is. There are plenty of vehicles with a better win/loss streak then Porsche. The original Ford GT40 for example has an extremely high won/loss ratio.

Its an advertisement to brag. Like the one up-manship of BWM and Audi with billboards while back . Or all the millions thrown around tomorrow night during the Super Bowl.
